After having 3 Z4 corporate cars, I knew I had to permanently add a Z4 Roadster to my stable. Considering my co-workers developed and built the E85-generation Z4 here in Spartanburg, it seemed like the most meaningful choice. And so the search began. It had to be a M– the standard E85 Z4s were nice but lacked the sparkle and excitement of a true M. Unlike my other cars, I was extremely picky on the color and equipment. My dream spec was a lower-mileage Sepang Bronze over a Light Sepang interior, with Madeira Wood Trim, Navigation, and heated seats – exactly what this one is. I found it at 6:30AM 5/4/23, barely waking up for work, on a random Autotrader search. It was listed the night before at a BMW dealer (one I knew was good), with amazing pictures and a great history. 6 hours later, the paperwork was signed, and 10 days later I flew up to Pennsylvania to bring her (“Zepanga”) home.
This is nothing like my Z4 M40i company car – it’s a classy and elegant visual specimen that happens to be a raw, point-and-shoot, tight-shifting driver’s car with a S54 NA 6-pot engine that rumbles to 4,000 RPM and screams the rest of the way to 7,900 RPM. I definitely get some joy staring at it – the rest comes from driving it.
